Ostia Antica
So today we visited the ancient harbour port of Rome, Ostia Antica. A town of 50,000 people that was basically abandoned when the river changed its course. At the mouth of the River Tiber, Ostia was Rome's seaport, but due to silting the site now lies 3 km from the sea.
It's hard to exaggerate how vast this site is and how amazing it is that the buildings are open to visitors walking through and on them.
Unfortunately I forgot my charger so this was the only photo I took- a pair of pigeons nestling in one of the city alleyways.
Stunning.
