Fire on the Port Hills

I've been in Christchurch today, and the city has been in the shadow of huge plumes of smoke all day due to the massive fires raging on the hills above the city.

On our way home we passed through the southern suburbs, where we could see the extent of the blaze. Shortly after this shot was taken the wind fanned the flames even more and a state of emergency had been declared.

Scary times for many of those living on the hills above the city, my thoughts go out to those caught up in the unfolding events.
