A heavy working day
T was up at 5 am feeding and tending to the cattle before the TB test. The vet arrived at 9 am and then T, B and D the vet spent the day pushing all the animals through the cattle crush for the injections and they were still working in the early evening when a heifer cow had started to calve at the other end of the farm. N went down to monitor the heifer while the batch of animals was finished. Then the vet and T went to calve the cow. B and I were moving cattle back to their pens in the dark and the poor heifer had a Ceasarian with a second vet called in. A live calf and a sore mother and a few more animals to test tomorrow! The heifer's pelvis was too narrow so unfortunately when the calf has been weaned in a few month's time the mother will have to go. T and B were really wiped out by 10 pm. In a few days' time the whole routine will have to be repeated with hopefully good results.
