This pop up hotel came to Edinburgh for the Festival this year to provide extra accommodation at a very busy time.

We understand that they're coming back again at New Year and next Festival.

It's an interesting concept, but we really hope that a permanent solution for the "Caltongate" gap site can be found.

Our cottage is only a few hundred yards from the site, and when we brought our business there in 2007 there was a plan to build a luxury hotel complex, which would have complimented our business and provided a big uplift to the area behind the Royal Mile.

The city is busy at these peak times, so extra accommodation is useful, but it doesn't feel great to have a pop up option this week when we've had a brief vacancy.

However, given the rest of the events of the week it's probably been just as well. And we're already booked for New Year and the WHOLE of August next year. Phew.
