Figs appear in Greek and Roman mythology linked to the God Dionysus & Bacchus and are associated with wine, drunkenness & sexual desire.

By contrast, Gautam Buddha was said to have achieved enlightenment sitting under the Bodhi tree, a member of the fig (ficus) family.
