Turtles on a Log

The lake is apparently still too muddy for the turtles who were all precariously balanced on a log awaiting developments.. We met Dana and Jim with Blake and Rudy and walked around the lake together. Clearly the waters had risen again in last weeks' storms as the path and the bushes around the lake still had a thin coating of mud.

I have put a picture which I took at the Huddle (scroll down to the second action, if you are interested) yesterday in the extras because it really is worth a thousand words. There were about fifteen of us who found our way to a house down the road in Glen Ellen, parked next to a barn with a horse sticking his head out the door to see what all the fuss was about, and joined the rest of the group facilitated by a fellow named Tom who introduced himself as a "Graphic Facilitator". One woman brought her husband who spoke only once during the meeting to ask for a definition of a huddle. We all agreed that it was not unlike a football (American style) huddle where the players gather together to agree on the next play. They have to keep gathering in order to advance their way toward the goal. Yesterday's meeting was to try to define some goals.

It's hard to know where to begin when the situation seems overwhelming, huddles seemed as good a way  as any to keep a grass roots movement going. The discussion was wide ranging but on its way to narrowing in on some goals when I had to leave. I would have liked to see it focused more on finding common ground and closing the many widening gaps opening up between the parties, the races, and the economic classes in our country, and less on how much we all dislike Trump, but I suppose it was a start.
We were lucky to have a leader who is good at what he does and willing to continue doing it.

I feel a little bit like the turtles...precariously balanced on a log, unable to see in the murky waters to know exactly what to do next, but exploring the options (without falling in)  and waiting to see what develops....
