About a month ago we had the misfortune to purchase some asparagus and which beguiled us on the supermarket shelf and we were tempted with the thoughts of summer.

We should not have bothered because it was really not very good.

However we decided that it was time to grow more asparagus. In the foreground is a row that has been in for about twelve years and in the background are the preparation works for two additional rows.

It is painstaking work because deep trenches have to be dug and then back filled with riddled soil and compost.

The job is nearly finished in readiness for the arrival of the new crowns for planting in March.
