Buckfast

There's been an abbey here since 1018 but this one's relatively new,.It was only finished off in 1938 so there are photographs of the monks working on it. At the moment there's a lot of work going on preparing an exhibition for a celebration of its millennium next year. I didn't bother to photograph them.

It's been a lovely day and the sun was very bright as I walked around the place. I like the shape of the bare tree in front of the abbey. Of course one of the things it's best known for is 'Buckie'. The Benedictine monks first made the tonic wine in the 1890s but it's made under licence by an outside company now. The other thing it's famous for is it's world famous bees which are still an important part of abbey life although it's mostly about education these days.

There are a few more here if you'd like to see them.
