The town twinning movement had its roots for most places in the devastation following the Second World War. A way of promoting friendship and understanding. So Coventry and Dresden, both heavily bombed, twinned together.

Salford has four twin towns, it is very much a community thing - which is how it should be. In the Brexit world we are now entering we will need all the friendship we can get.
