The tidy up begins...
I made a involuntary loud sigh when Valdek turned the radio off yesterday when they finished and he asked rather incredulously,
'You don't like it?'
I admitted that I didn't particularly like it. This morning it was a bit quieter. Lest you think I'm a complete old bag, I actually put their radio UP a bit this morning! I know it seems to help them work, and all I want is a good job done. I can clear off for a few days.
At the moment I have my iPod stuck in my ears, so we're all happy.
Trouble with being ready for the day before 7.45, is that you're ready for peace and quiet by 9am. So I was off into town. It was a bit dreich, but nothing that an umbrella didn't overcome. Walked down the Royal Mile. Lots of tidying up going on. Lots more to do. They were still painting this building when I left for Australia at the end of June, and it did look a bit, er, bright. But I think it looks nice. Apparently all the buildings in the Royal Mile and High Street would have been bright colours. I read that once. Or did I dream it?
Great conversation on the bus. There were only two women, the learner bus driver, his instructor and me on the bus. It took me a while to tune in to their chat. I think it was at the word 'murder' that my antennae swiveled around and I listened carefully backwards. I was annoyed as the bus kept rattling over cobblestones, making it impossible to hear important bits.
Apparently one woman's man had died and rumour was going round that she had killed him because he'd had a bump on the head prior to this and nothing had been done. Her friend was only letting her know what she'd heard. She believed her version.
"Ah'm jest tellin' ye whit ah've heard, hen."
"He choked on his food. Ah wiz there. Well, Ah wiznae there. I foond him in the mornin'. "
"Aye, but mind he bumped his heid."
"Ah tried tae get him tae the doctors. Whit wizz ah supposed tae dae? Drag him?"
"Ah'm jist tellin' ye whit they're sayin'."
"Whit? That ah murrrderred him? The post mortem said he deed o' chokin' on his food in the middle o' the nicht"
"Ah believe ye, hen. Ah'm just sayin'."
"His mither said he wiz an accident waitin' tae happen."
"Ah'm jist sayin'..."
Off to the flicks this afternoon.
Ah'm jist sayin'...
