Waitangi Day

Waitangi Day in New Zealand is a National Holiday to commemorate the signing of the Treaty of Waitangi, New Zealands founding Document, signed in 1840 between the Crown and over 40 Māori Chiefs.
Often a day of controversy and protest it provokes a lot of emotion, but I won't get political here.
The image above is of Antrim House, built by Architect Robert Turnbull for Robert Hannah on 1905. Currently owned by Heritage New Zealand as their headquarters.
Not open to the public very often, I went there today as it was an open day. A beautiful house with a lot of history in its short 112 year lifespan.

Having only lived in New Zealand for 7 years I still find it strange that this country is so young and its history only really began around 1820.
The extra photo shows NZ Flags, another history lesson on its own!
