The Lighted Life

The Twilight Zone

My Monday mornings in the summer are a bit manic. In an effort to stay at the cabin with my family on Sunday night, my ritual is to arise the next morning at 5 a.m. and drive the 182 miles to my office so that I can be present for our Monday morning staff meetings.

The drive south is always interesting. Over the course of three hours, I see numerous deer, dozens of eagles and gulls, scores of crows and blackbirds, and many, many smelly (and usually dead) skunks on the side of the road.

And in August, I see extremely weird light as a result of the golden rays of the sunrise playing with the thick ground fog that is typical this time of year. This Monday, I happened to glance laterally down a dirt road as I travelled south and, with my glance, I entered the Twilight Zone. The light was surreal and bordered on eerie. This is straight of the sensor in JPEG. I am way too tired to play with it.

Isabella goes back to school tomorrow. Damn it! I remember laughing years ago when my father told me that each summer of his life past faster as compared to the last. Years ago, I thought that time was time a constant and that any single measure of it would be consistent throughout my years. Wow, was I misinformed. As always, I tip my hat to my father's wisdom. And I tip my hat to Isabella, as she is excited to get back to work.

Thank you for the great feelings that you provided on my dueling eagle blip. It was an epic event for our family that we will talk about for years. The fact that we could share it with you makes it that much more special
