A Handful of Beans
My harvest for the week. This has been a very poor season for beans. Too many cold days and nights and too many gales have crippled the plants. I love beans, and grow four different varieties. To get the single once weekly serving I need to mix them up.
The shiny ones at the top are Mangere pole beans, which are normally heavy croppers, but I found only four beans on the two columns. There was one scarlet runner from two columns. The rest are green and purple dwarf beans that are more sheltered from the wind, but still suffer from the cold.
It seems strange complaining about cold when we are having a run of hot days, but the damaging wind is still with us.
