A View of London
Today I visited the Tate Modern on Bankside, London.
The main purpose of my visit was to see the exhibition "The Radical Eye", a collection of modernist photographs - ie from the first half of the twentieth century. The photographs are all taken from the personal collection of Sir Elton John and normally hang on the walls of his home. They include some iconic images, such as Man Ray's "Glass Tears" and Dorothea Lange's "Migrant Mother". It is an astonishing collection, and makes for an excellent exhibition. At extra cost there is also an audio guide which consists of introductions from Sir Elton John and the exhibition's curator, Shoair Mavilan, which I found valuable.
The exhibition is on the second floor of the Switch House, the recent addition to the Tate Modern. The windows provide a good view over London and people were sitting looking out, enjoying the scene (as shown here). However, the best views are to be had from the viewing gallery on the 10th floor, which allows a 360 degree view. You can get to that for free. It's worth it.
