Silver Birch Grove

Having spent a lovely weekend staying with family in Southend-on-Sea, we travelled back home today, stopping on the way at Anglesey Abbey in Cambridgeshire.

Originally a priory, it became a country house following the Dissolution of the Monasteries, and was given to the National Trust in 1966 by Huttleston Broughton, 1st Lord Fairhaven.

The house has a large estate of formal gardens, meadows and woodland. We explored most of the estate and for my blip I have chosen this image of the very striking silver birch grove in the Winter Walk part of the garden.
