Great war coin
This is a British £2 coin issued to commemorate the Great War/First World War (1914-1918). I spotted it in change yesterday while in London. This one is supposed to represent the Army and has the words "FOR KING AND COUNTRY" on the edge. Personally I'd like to think people fought tyranny because it was the right thing to do, not because of any silly ideas of Nationalism...
At the moment there is a very good exhibition that covers combat first aid as was available to British and Commonwealth soldiers on the Western Front of the Great War at the Science Museum in London. In some respects it's very interesting and thought provoking on another level it's also depressing how woefully unprepared the Government and the Army was when it comes to fighting an enemy that fights back. If you have the time I would recommend a visit.
