Mixed Blessings

It will come as no surprise to anyone (except perhaps me) that I was voted back in as Secretary of our Friends Group at the Belair National Park, and the .  For some reason I was really nervous about this meeting, but it all went very smoothly.

We awarded 4 life memberships - the recipients of which knew all about it.  The surprise was Certificate of Appreciation awarded to a family for the work done by their husband and father who passed away some years ago.  Eric was a stalwart of the Friends group and his widow continues his work to this very day.  They are a terrific family and it was, as you can imagine, a very emotional presentation.

Blackberries are a very invasive weed in our Park.  But they do have an upside.  First they provide a valuable habitat for small birds and for bandicoots.  Bandicoots are a bit like large rats, but cuter, and are native marsupials much hunted by feral cats and foxes.

Second, we know all the best places to go blackberrying - and it's getting pretty close to the picking season.
