Off to LaJolla Cove. 6AM
In Search of Brown Pelicans
But whoa. The Area’s closed.
Those wooden steps down to the rocks,
Getting rickety and need repair.
Good news. Should just take a day to fix.
So I walked toward the Lifeguard Tower,
Hoping to catch some Pelicans flying overhead.
Instead I found the best photo op,
On the ledges below me,
A nesting colony of Brandt’s Cormorants.
You know those fabulous birds with the cerulean blue eyes.
The place pulsed with activity.
Mates creating nests, sitting on nests, stealing nesting material.
My favorite image of the day is this couple interacting.
You can see their nest is right on the edge of land and Pacific Ocean
Never seen anything like this.
Wowee.
