Kelvingrove at night

I'm rather pleased with this iPhone snap.

I had a long walk around the west end before meeting my gig husband to go to Oran Mor. Actual husband decided to stay home...

On my travels I got chatting to a young woman begging outside M&S. I was so impressed by what was clearly a positive decision to be pleasant and cheery regardless of her circumstance. I had given her my change, maybe a couple of pounds, and she chatted when I came back past her. She thanked me again and said she hope I had a lovely evening. On automatic pilot I almost said "you too" before catching myself and saying I hoped it wasn't too cold. She said no, it was fine and anyway she had nearly enough money to go to a hostel; there was one at £9 a night. I walked on, stopped at the cash line and came back to give her £10.

Of course others reckon I'm gullible and it was all an act and may be spent on booze, drugs, whatever. I prefer to hope she had a warm bed and some hot food. And I hope whatever circumstances put her there can be resolved and she can get herself back on her feet.
