Day trip to Edinburgh
We went to Edinburgh today and showed Orla where we used to live. Then we had a picnic in Holyrood park. That was weird, like two universes colliding! After lunch we went to Dynamic Earth. Orla seemed to really enjoy it. She had a bit of a meltdown in the gift shop though, as she wanted us to buy her a 'family' of penguins. We said that she could only have one. I had to take her out of the shop, calm her down and discuss gently with her why she couldn't have the four that she wanted. She eventually apologised to me and her dad. It started to rain when we came out, and we had to walk back the car, parked near the Commonwealth pool. Luckily I'd put Orla's Team GB rain poncho in her bag, so she was okay. Ed went on ahead to get the car and come back for us. We managed to shelter under a tree on the road through the park just as the rain was at its heaviest, so it wasn't too bad. The house is still a mess from the kitchen fitting, so we had dinner in the Red Deer. On our way home, we overheard Orla talking to her one penguin in the back of the car: "Don't worry penguin, we'll go back and get the rest of your family another day."
