St Trudpert's Abbey in Münstertal/Black Forest
St. Trudpert's is one the oldest abbeys in Germany. It was founded in the seventh century by an Irish missionary. The monastery was the nucleus of a town called Münster (hence the name Münstertal - Monastery Valley) which became extremely rich thanks to silver-mining - and which was completely destroyed in the late Middle Ages. The monastery took over the silver trade so that in later centuries there was just this imposing abbey in the middle of a scattering of farms. It was secularized at the beginning of the 19th century. Today it is the home of the Sisters of St. Joseph.
