Innocent Railway

Grim weather today.  "Dreich" as we say.  I'd done some respectable physical activity on the last couple of days so felt comfortable with a day off.  I went to the National Museum of Scotland to get a photo of Edinburgh Castle from its rooftop terrace. It was sleeting there so, after getting the shots I'd set out to get, headed for Arthur's Seat (I thought it might be snowing on the top and I like a bit of snow!). On the way I followed a cycle route and at one point a cyclist darted down a side street.  Being a nosey bastard curious type I followed and was surprised to find the entrance to the Innocent Railway tunnel. I'd walked the path from the other end of it before but didn't know where it began.  It's an impressive tunnel!

  "At 517 metres, the Innocent Railway tunnel under Holyrood Park is an impressive one, particularly when you consider it was the first railway tunnel in the UK. "  [http://www.edinburghguide.com/book/transport/cycling/innocentrailwaypath}

Hike up Arthur's Seat now abandoned, I continued along the Innocent Railway to Duddingston and then to Portobello. Along the way I could see that there was a little snow on Arthur but not enough to have made me happy!   About six miles (~9.5 kilometer) walked so got a decent amount of exercise without much effort!
