burning the midnight oil

Somehow I volunteered to do the Immortal Memory at our Samba Sisters' Burns Supper next week. Never let it be said that I don't like a challenge..

For those of you around the world who might not know, the Immortal memory is an after-dinner speech which aims to explain why Robert Burns was so important and why his memory should be handed on from generation to generation. 

One website I looked at says that it " is normally lengthy, should be original and requires much study and preparation beforehand."

Be reassured, Sisters. It will be original. It will not be lengthy. And it is requiring an awful lot of study :-)
