Vicar's Close, Wells

Vicar's Close is reputed to be the oldest surviving, purely residential street in the world, originally inhabited by the vicars of the cathedral.

We managed to catch the street unusually empty of visitors and residents when we went across with Sophie this morning.

She enjoyed watching the cathedral quarterjack bell strike midday, a walk by the moat to see the swans and some cake in the Bishop's Palace cafe.
