Pewter

Amazing what happens when you quickly pour hot (200°C plus) molten pewter into cold water. An eight inch sculpture from a piece of pewter no larger than two £2 coins. One may think I have many unproductive days in my workhouse (see yesterday's blip), but today's experiment actually happened out of curiosity whilst tidying away some welding gear. Or multi-tasking as a woman would call it (apparently men cannot multi-task).

Pewter is a highly versatile casting metal. With it's low melting point, moulds can be made out of MDF, Wood, Plaster, Clay, Cuttlefish making it relatively safe to use with youngsters. And kids love it..... leather gear on, specs on, blow torch on, sparks flying and pouring hot liquid metal from a ladle. And us older folk appreciate the warmth at this (cold) time of year!

Bring on da weekend.....
