Story of the sea - my pearl
The golden age of pearling was between 1850s and 1930 . Most of the 19th century pearls were the most valuable gemstones known to man , worth far more than diamonds. Jacques Cartier went to the island of Bahrain where pearls were the main economy. Around 30,000 divers worked by holding their breath without equipment apart from a nose peg , leather on their fingers to protect them against the coral, weighted rope and a bag to collect the pearls.
The pearl in my blip was purchased in Egypt from a jewellery shop in the hotel myself and David were staying in , I said to David how much I liked it but it was rather expensive so I will leave it, but later that day David surprised me with it and I was overwhelmed and sooo happy . Off on our mini break in a few hours to see the Angel of the North, may also go to South Shields Beach , Mmm I wonder if I might find a pearl.
