Gently down the stream

That all, missus? - WildWed43

This morning I had a rather wonderful encounter with this robin.  Knowing how hungry the birds must be after yet another night of freezing fog, I took my bag of mealworms to the nature reserve and left little offerings on well-frequented (and picturesque) fence posts.  The usual robins were very beady eyed for food, but leaving the trees where they live and starting along the boardwalk over the reedbeds, I suddenly got dive bombed by this cheeky bird.  I had very few worms left, mostly battered crumbs, but I duly got down on my knees to leave what there were on the boards, when he flew up, almost onto my hand.  So there I was in this ridiculous situation, long lens on camera (for bird shots) and not a hope of getting an in-focus blip.

I shuffled back.

He leapt back about a metre, then came on again.

A friend joined him.  He bounced her(?) back onto the edge of the boardwalk but didn’t chase her(?) off.  Then I got this rather calculating, slightly derisive look at my offering.  He knew he’d got the rubbish end of the deal.

Thanks to Cailleach for hosting WildWed

Apart from that, it was Old gent afternoon.  OG's still very sore from his fall and a bit depressed, but he did cheer up.  Nothing else about today, really.  I’m making a vegetable korma for supper and maybe watching Alan Bennett. who I missed at Christmas  It could be rather a treat.

Enjoy yours, dear folks  xx

PS:  Thanks so much for your kind reaction to my foggy picture yesterday.  And while we’re on that kind of subject, I must apologise for the hopeless state of heart giving.  I’m in the ridiculous position of commenting and giving stars in the evening but not being able to give hearts until halfway through the morning.  (I will give them then, though).  Dhurrrr!
