Swedish Treats!
Hello Blipfriends!
Dolly reporting today!
Mum came home from San Francisco today! She doesn't always bring me home a treat but I always love it when she does! Today she came with a REALLY special one!
These round things are called 'Semla' (or Semlor, pl). They are Swedish buns filled with marzipan and cream and are traditionally eaten on Tuesdays in Lent, but now are usually available anytime between Christmas and Easter.
But how did she come by these - in San Francisco?? It appears that our friend Jeff, who had just been visiting us, was back at work at the airport today, and went to a local Scandinavian bakery in his lunch hour to buy these. Then he met mum at the airport before she got on her flight so she could bring them home. How cool is that?
Mum has had Semla before, but I never have. But since our trip to Sweden last summer we love all things Swedish, so of course we were very excited to have them! We had one tonight and saved the other one for tomorrow. I got a few bites and it was super yummy! We're not sure what the green cake is but it was delicious too! Layered with jam and almond paste.
Thanks Jeff!
