Technical Support

My Dear Fellow,

Today we were at Shetland Dad's flat (hence the picture of South African art). He wanted us to replace his Virgin tv box, set up his new phone and show him how to use the free tablet he got with his new phone.

It turned out that the box wasn't a tv box at all, it was a wireless router. But Shetland Dad didn't want that set up, because he's happy with the internet as it is. So then we tried to set up the free tablet. After about 10 minutes we realised the reason we couldn't find the password for the wireless, was because the current router ISN'T wireless.

Sigh.

So then Er Indoors did some set up on the new phone. SD doesn't like the current ring tone.

"What about this one," said Er Indoors.
"Can you change the noise for texts?" said SD.
"Yes," said Er Indoors, "but we're doing the phone ring first. How about this one?"
"Is that the text noise?"
"No, this is your phone."
"I know it's my phone, is that the noise for texts?"
"No this is your phone ringing."
"Is it?"
"No, I mean this is what your phone sounds like when it rings."
"When I get a text?"
"When it rings! This is what your phone sounds like when it rings."
"It's a bit foofy."

So eventually we got a phone ring SD liked. And we also settled on the text noise, although the first one sounded "a bit like someone taking a sh*t."

In between we were somewhat distracted by stories of SD going to church this morning. Apparently the sermon was enlivened by a member of the congregation who was suffering from dementia.

Apparently the sermon was about Dr. Martin Luther King Jnr.

"He's dead!" shouted the man in the pew.

"Yes," said the vicar trying to regain control. "He stood for peace but was gunned down in violence."

"Yes, yes. Black feller. I remember him well," replied the man in the pew. "He's dead, you know."

Apparently he had to be told to shut up by the vicar. "That's a bit mean," said Er Indoors.

Shetland Dad reminded us that he might struggle with technology, but at least he isn't shouting at reverends yet. I suppose he has a point.
