Old Hollinside

Walked to the ruins of this old Medieval manor house today (see extra). Caesar was in his element as he discovered it was the perfect agility course and made a great game of hide and seek.

Beef and ale stew and dumplings now cooking in the oven.

Some history:
Medieval manor house of the first-floor hall type. Main entry would have been up a flight of steps then through a lobby into the first floor hall. First recorded in 1317 when Thomas de Holinside granted it to William de Boineton of Newcastle. Later passed to the Hardings until around 1700 when it became part of the Gibside estate of the Bowes family. After this it was reduced in status to a tenanted farm and by the early 19th century was abandoned and fell into ruin.
