I guess the average farmer in our area really doesn't care whether you can get to London 8 minutes faster in future ...

I can't say I blame them!

Personally I would rather the money for HS2 was spent differently.

But with everything else going on in this country and the rest of the world i guess it's not too high on the agenda of concerns.
