On what felt like a "slow image day", I'd stumbled upon the flood rescue boat running through its paces for the press, TV and radio. They do a fantastic job when we frequently have floods in York.

In the contact sheet, the guy in the last image hauling the boat to the quay is a surgeon I used to work with at the hospital. So he told me; he recognised me from when he was a medical student and I used to go on the weekly vascular surgical round.

They are all volunteers. Something I've always been interested in and have always loved being around water. Tough call, but I'm seriously thinking of putting my name down. There is a waiting list though.
