Otterly delightful
Went walking today from Colaton Raleigh, along the river Otter, then to Mutters Moor, Ladram Bay and back along the Otter.
The Otter is but a short river of some twenty miles. It rises on the Blackdown Hills on the borders of Devon and Somerset, flowing into the sea at Budleigh Salterton. It lends its name to Otterhead, Otterford, Up-Ottery, Ottery- Mohun, Ottery St. Mary, Fen Ottery, and Otterton.. It also gives its name to the Otter Brewery, and thus Otter bitter, Otter ale, Otter bright, Otter head, and Otter amber.
We were also in Raleigh country, being in the vicinity of Hayes Barton - birthplace of Sir Walter Raleigh.
We saw a kingfisher but no otters. In the absence of any decent photographs I give you a pint of Badger Golden Glory, my favourite beer, in my favourite Otter glass. Otter ales are very good too.
