Murder Cairn
An insignificant little sign post pointing to a cairn marking the spot of the "Appin Murder".
A pro government (in the 45 rebellion) sheriiff, Colin Campbell, was thought to have been shot by a Stewart, a family who supported theJacobite side in the 1745-46 rebellion six years earlier.
Perceived as the start of another rebellion the King was supposed to have instructed that there was a court case and someone to find guilty at all costs. In what would be called a kangaroo court these days James Stewart, despite lack of evidence, was convicted. He was hung some months later near the south side of the Ballachilish narrows. The case has been revisited by many historians and even detectives.
The murder is woven with historic accuracy in to the plot of Kidnapped.
