August Bank Holiday Sunday - retro seaside

Well, what on earth happened here? Once again I went for the big picture and came back with this little detail. But there's something I loved about this, it felt retro, 1950's almost, like something written by Alan Bennett.

What you see in the background is the Solent, with the Hamble River coming in to the left and a tiny corner of enormous Fawley Refinery opposite (biggest of its kind in the country according to Wikipedia). The Hamble foreshore, where these people are sitting is weedy pebbles giving way to silty mud - not exactly golden sands - but lots of folk were out enjoying themselves, fishing, swimming, pretend body-boarding (there are no waves to speak of) and of course there were lots of yachts with sun in their sails looking tiny and frail against the giant tankers and sticky-up chimney/pipe thingies (note use of technical language).

You might say it was an odd place to go anyway, but I was really on the way to M&S at Hedge End to buy vests - this was just a detour..

So that's me for now - hope you've enjoyed Sunday
