Light in the Glens
Puffers had been around from the mid 1850's until 1993. They were workhorses of the canal and coastal shipping trade, given fame and notoriety by the Neil Munro 'Para Handy' tales.
Watercolorist Russell Flint was commissioned by Hays' Ship owners to produce paintings of the puffer (lighter) industry at work. This mock-up seeks to imitate his work. The flat bottomed boats were designed to be beached at low tide on islands where jetty facilities were unsuitable.
My diorama uses soft brown sugar for sand and the sea is the ever present black plastic bin liner.
