Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, USA
“Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. We are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality tied in a single garment of destiny. Whatever affects one directly affects all indirectly.”--Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Tonight the jazz service at the Augustana Lutheran Church celebrated the life and ministry of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. I took this photo of Marilyn Keller and George Mitchell rehearsing just prior to the church service.
Marilyn’s website features a full description of the “Like a Mountain” project based on Naomi Little Bear Morena’s song. I was amazed to find, when I clicked on the website this evening, a slide show made of the photos I took last night and a two-minute recording of the chorus rehearsing the song.
Naomi and Marilyn hope the song will be sung again in all the places where the future looks uncertain and people are feeling anxious. If you know of a chorus that might like to learn the song, a new video of the studio-engineered version and a package of sheet music arranged by Darrell Grant will soon be available. Bookmark Marilyn’s website if you know a group of singers that might be interested in learning the song.
