Nothing to disturb the calm

Here's another short poem from the Derek Bowman collection I blipped yesterday ...

... and today's snap is of a local Edinburgh church court-yard, that I had never comes across before:

Young Snowdrops

That hang the head modestly,
That know their place,
Keep their petals demurely close,
Small, neat, and innocent
Like Brussels lace.

Rods of leaves that sparely sprout,
Dark-green, intent,
Round the stem a little higher
Than a forefinger, with one flower
That gives no scent.

Very quietly they appear
When no flower's about,
Nothing to disturb the calm,
The understatement of their growth,
No need to shout.

And then they're gone.
