Almshouses After All These Years
In my village (Dallington, Northamptonshire) are four almshouses (built in September 1673) and funded by Sir Richard Raynsford. There's a stone plaque (just visible) set high into the wall that confirms they will be for the use of the needy in perpetuity.
I'm glad no-one has found a way to sell them off and that they are still used as homes for the needy, As you can see, there's some keen gardeners amongst those living here at the moment.
