Redpoll
I took a circuit around the moor this afternoon, through the last bits of snow under a clear, blue sky - can't beat it!
Today's elder tree bird list:
blue tits
great tits
coal tits
long-tailed tits
blackbirds
goldfinches
nuthatch
robins
woodpecker
chaffinches
sparrow
thrush (new visitor)
starlings
and the redpoll (who wouldn't come out from behind the branch)
The bird behaviour is constantly entertaining. The goldfinches fall out with each other in heaps; the three robins are very territorial and take no prisoners; the blackbirds are unhappy about the presence of the thrush; the woodpecker doesn't like anything larger than the tits on the fat bits whilst he is eating; the long-tails arrive and depart in a mob and, meanwhile, the blue tits and great tits go backwards and forwards all day ignoring the neighbour's cat and everything else in the tree.
