Orange on Black
As orangespotted ladybirds are rare around here I was delighted to discover this one. It is a New Zealand native, Coccinella leonina, has 16 orange spots on shiny black, and is about 6mm long. They are very tricky to pin down as they run about at great speed, frequently changing direction. In the left-hand image it is at rest, while in the right it is running.
Poppy of the day in extras. Good flowers are getting hard to find now.
