Ridge-d
The Olympic Peninsula is as far Northwest as you can reach in the United States. My journey started in Woodinville, WA at an Enterprise, a quick dart over to the Edmond-Kingston ferry, followed by a 2 hour drive to one of the crown jewels of the Pacific Northwest. Since my fellow road tripper and I were on a scrape-change type of budget, we co-habited a boat on AirBnB. This advertisement was gracious on the space of the vessel, but it did the trick for the adventure.
Sitting on the "Strait of Juan de Fuca", Port Angeles looks north to Vancouver Island and south to Hurricane Ridge. Hurricane Ridge is considered a main attraction to visitors in Olympic National Park, and for good reason. The day of our visit was late in October with a forecast of 40-50 degrees, not a popular time for an excursion in the Olympics (a good thing for us). From our "boat" to the entrance was a 5 minute drive, followed by a half an hour trek up the mountain(s) that peaks at above 5,000 feet.
The sun shot through the chilled late-autumn air, a prime aid for a pair of hikers. Once you reach the visitor center (closed today), the area branches out into various trails. After surveying the map, we shot out for our destination, which proved to be the right one as it provided all of the pictures for this post.
...watch out for the goats.
