The Kenyans are Back!!

On the 3rd Saturday of August...on the streets of downtown Flint...they hold the Bobby Crim Road Race. 10-12 thousand people in a variety of races.

The signature race is 10 miles. A hot day to run. This picture was taken just past mile #5...on a series of inclines called the Bradley Hills. It is Flints answer to the Boston Marathons Heartbreak Hill. The guy in the green...Julius Kogo...won the race in 46 minutes and 45 seconds.

I got to run it 2 times. With my brother pacing me one year...we ran 67 minutes and 7 seconds. Years later...pacing myself...I finished in 85 minutes. Always a fun day...but a tough race.

I had to leave the race before it finished to get back to an event at our church. We call it the So Long to Summer Fest. Car show...kids inflatables...BBQ catered in...rock-climbing wall...mechanical bull...etc,etc. A nice day, but sort of sad to say good-bye to summer.

I posted 13 extra pictures on my flickr page. More running shots, some old cars, and my newest hawk sighting. Have a look if you are so inclined.

Will catch up soon. Going through one of those times where there doesn't seem to be enough hours in the day.

By clicking it into LARGE...you can see a non-Kenyan snuck into the top tier of runners. I don't know how he finished. Those Kenyans can really run. So fluid. Gazelle-like. Looks like nothing bothers them.
