I took this without the aid of flash and, as it was a bit dark indoors for my little compact to cope with, I played around with the image a bit afterwards, using some of the special effects one can add in camera, and again on computer software, to give a filmic effect.

Betty Harris - I'm Gonna Git Ya (1967)
Betty Harris is best known to me as the person who made the definitive version of Cry To Me in 1963. It was first recorded by Solomon Burke in 1962 and produced by Bert Berns, who wrote it and also produced her version, which I believe was the single that the Rolling Stones and the Pretty Things based their own interpretations on.
However, to Northern Soul and other afficionados she is best known for the years she spent on the New Orleans Sansu label, flying in from her Florida home to be produced by Marshall Sehorn and Allen Toussaint and backed by the Meters, the label's legendary house band. Only a couple of singles from these sessions were released in the UK (on Stateside or Action) and weren't widely heard, certainly not by me.
During the week I heard her version of Ride Your Pony and also this B-side, played by Cerys Matthews, from that period, and am going to investigate further, probably starting with the recent Soul Jazz compilation The Lost Queen of New Orleans Soul.
