These good luck charms, usually attached to the strap of a handbag or briefcase or kept inside a wallet or purse, are now spent. People come to the shrine around the New Year period to pray for good fortune and to buy a new good luck charm to see them through this year. These good luck charms, called omomori, will all be burned in a few days' time.
