Virtual Reality Take 2

As a follow-up to the old school VR a couple of weeks ago - now experimenting with some new technology. 

Currently on a polar cruise from the comfort of my study - didn't something like this get mentioned in the Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy many years ago?
