Not so grey
Following hours and hours of sleep, I was looking out of the window after breakfast and spotted an otter swimming around the seals that were laid out on the rocks. It was the telltale sight of a tail as it submerged that gave it away, being a little far away for an easy ID. Rich took a look, spotted it but described a different location entirely. TWO! Well that started the day off nicely!
Today was forecast as a black cloud day so we decided on a roam around the RSPB reserve at Loch Gruinart. We were anticipating seeing the barnacle geese in huge numbers, which didn't disappoint, but it was the female hen harrier that gave us the real buzz. It did a fair few flybys, aggravating the birds on the ground as it did so.
The two nervous deer in the woods enhanced the day yet again. And that was before we drove home.
There've been loads of buzzards around so when we drove down next to the coast, in quite a lowland area, the flat, wide, fingered wings of a golden eagle were really not what I was expecting to see. It took a double take. But there it was, with space to stop the car and watch it for a short while before it headed off.
Not a grey day after all!
And the sun's just come out.
