Christmas Record

It's Orthodox Christmas Day today and the temperature down has been down to minus 29.9C in Moscow (and down to minus 35.9C out of the city). There was a report that arriving passengers were delayed because the doors into one of the terminals at the airport were frozen shut.  The weather service has declared an orange alert, the penultimate level of alert ("the weather is dangerous").  It's also the coldest Christmas Eve in 120 years of records (the previous record being minus 34.8C in 1891).
