On a journey
Monday
Today we were on a journey - back to our temporary home in France. The next journey we make will be of a different sort at the end of the month, when we reluctantly return to the U.S. We had a good drive down to Folkestone, arriving in good time at the tunnel for our train. We still had a few hours of daylight left when we arrived in France, and the weather was pretty good, so we decided to take the quieter and more scenic A16, rather than our usual A1, and that is where my photos were taken, the lower two at the very attractive Aire de baie de la Somme. At church yesterday, the local preacher was talking about journeys - how the journeys we take at this time of year are usually rather different to other journeys we make throughout the year. At Christmas we are generally traveling to see people, rather than other holidays when we generally travel to see or experience different places, or experience different activities. He focused especially of course on the journey made by the Wise Men. Their journey was different again, as they didn't know exactly where their journey was taking them. The journey would have taken them at least several months, maybe more. When we set out on a journey these days, we have a rough idea how long it will take us. The Wise Men didn't know how long they would be gone, no idea of what they would encounter on the way, what difficulties or dangers they may encounter, but they continued following the star until it led them to the child Jesus, where they offered their gifts and worshipped him, just as we are called to do today.
