Spotting him heading up the hill
(holding on to a Co-op bag that will
contain nothing more than beer,
fags and a chocolate bar)
I’m aware it’s that time of year
when cracks begin to appear
(something’s got to give!)
in our good intentions to live
healthier and better lives. I am
tempted to stick my head out
and shout
‘Who’s your friend, Liam?’
but I did resolve not to
go poking my nose into
other people’s business
in 2017, so…
I keep schtum
and watch the two of them go
slowly round the bend.
